With so much information available now about smoking and its ill effects on health, it's not surprising that celebrities who smoke catch some bad press. Many people feel that the stars are role models for the younger generation, and should always act accordingly.
Still, smoking is a highly addictive habit, and the male celebrity smoking list contains some of the biggest stars imaginable.
The Male Celebrity Smoking List
These male stars are well-known, both in their careers and as smokers.
Robert Pattinson is a heartthrob for teen girls, who flock to catch him in each new installment of the Twilight movie series. The fact that he's also a heavy smoker has brought him a lot of criticism from those who believe he is setting a bad example for his fans. He often appears in photographs with a cigarette in hand, and was accused of glamorizing smoking.
Brad Pitt is perhaps the most famous male actor in Hollywood. From his acting roles to his romantic and personal life, he is photographed wherever he goes. These photos often capture Pitt with a cigarette in hand, though he has said that he'd like to quit the habit because of his children.
Johnny Depp began smoking at the age of 12, and by the time he hit it big onscreen he was a chain smoker. He rolls his own cigarettes, using imported papers and Bali tobacco. Depp successfully quit several years ago but he has once again taken up the habit, though he smokes much less now.
Kiefer Sutherland attempted to quit smoking after serving a 48-day jail sentence in 2007 for driving under the influence of alcohol. Since he couldn't smoke in prison, he had a clean break from the habit. Like many others who have quit, however, Sutherland was once again smoking soon after his release.
Shia LaBeouf, best known for his role as Sam Witwicky in the Transformers movies, was in legal trouble due to his tobacco habit. In 2008, he was charged with a misdemeanor in Burbank, California for smoking in a shopping district, which is a protected area. After failing to appear in court he ended up paying a $500 fine for unlawful smoking.
Daniel Radcliffe, who plays Harry Potter on film, smokes up to a pack of cigarettes a day. His nicotine addiction has earned him the nickname "Harry Puffer" in the British media. Radcliffe caused quite a scandal when he was photographed smoking an illegal substance at a party in 2009 and was then dubbed "Harry Pothead."
Ashton Kutcher discussed quitting smoking on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno in 2006, and he did indeed stay smoke-free for almost 18 months. After picking up the habit once again, he and his wife, Demi Moore, have struggled with kicking the addiction. Moore smokes both cigarettes and cigars.
